COMMANDERS MESSAGE
I would like to wish all of you and
your families a Blessed Christmas a Happy Hanukkah and a Happy New Year. We
will be having our Christmas Dinner/ Dance on Friday evening, December 19,
2008. Come join us for a great night of comradeship, dancing and dinner. Bring
your spouses, partners and friends and get to meet your fellow members. I would
especially like to invite all the new members who joined us during this past
year, Now is a good time to get familiar with your post if you have not been
able to be active. All are welcome.

1.) Thursday, Dec. 4th: Chamber Of
Commerce “Holiday Party” from 5:00 to 7:00PM at our Post. Our post is now a
member of the Fair Lawn C of
C.
2.) Friday, Dec. 12th and Dec. 26th:
Regular Post meetings at 8:00PM.
3.) Tuesday, Dec. 16th: Hospital
Party at Paramus Vets Home.
4.) Friday, Dec. 19th: Annual Post
Christmas Dinner/Dance. See below for

CURRENT OPERATION NOTES
1.) Our “Christmas Dinner/Dance”
will be held Friday, Dec.19th from 8:00pm till 12:00PM. Doors will open at
7:30pm. The menu is being developed. There will be a cash bar for mixed drinks.
Cost is: $10 per person or $15 per
couple for a member, $15
per person or $25 per couple for nonmembers. A DJ will provide the music. Get
your reservation and payments in early.
There is a December 11th cutoff date as we need to know how many are
coming. Call Lou at 201-796-4124 for reservations and send payments to him at:

Note: As is our custom, you are encouraged to bring
a gift for a veteran. Gifts will be transported to the Veterans’ Home in
Paramus. There will be a basket available at the Christmas party to accept
monetary gifts also. Gifts of sweat shirts, sweat pants and socks are
appreciated (no toiletries). Clothing should be identified if they are
specifically for men or for women. Any monetary gifts will be used to purchase
additional clothing.
2.) I mentioned that one of my membership goals for this
year was to be at 100% paid for 2009 by December 31, 2008. We are close to
that goal. There are 23 members who have not yet renewed their 2009
membership. Please check your membership card. If it is for 2008 you may
be one of those 23. Renewing your membership will help us in making our goal.
If you are not sure if you renewed your dues call the Post at 201-796-9667 and

3.) “VETERANS DAY” was held
in front of the Borough Hall of Fair Lawn on Tuesday, November 11th at 11:00AM
sharp. The participation of all was noteworthy.
4.) NOTICE: Dues for 2009
are due on receipt of a notification from National American Legion. Our American Legion Post membership dues for
the year 2009 were due July 2008 and were increased by $5.00. Dues are $30.00
per year for members under 62 years of age and $27 for those 62 and older.

5.) The American Legion,* Dept. of
NJ offers two scholarships. The Stutz and the Lutterman scholarships. Stutz is for $4000, $1000
per year, education scholarship. Eligibility is limited to sons and daughters
of a legionnaire. Lutterman is two $4000
scholarships, $1000 per year, three $2000 at $1000 per year, two
$1000. Eligibility is limited to sons, daughters, grandsons and
granddaughters of a legionnaire. File by Feb. 15, 2009.
Must be a current senior in high school. Albee has the
applications.
