“Did you know?”
Harry Cappendycke was a Fair Lawn resident who joined the Army duing World War I. He was killed in action on October 8, 1918
. We became a chartered American Legion Post in December 1929 and were named in his honor. Due to a typographical error we were charted as Harry Coppendyke Post
171. The chartered members of the post spoke
with the Cappendycke family and explained the
error. The family agreed that the
name should remain as it was listed on our charter.
